the movement you should really be a part of

Kayla Itsines. If you haven’t heard her name by now, you must be living under a rock. She became a fixture in my life when I came across a mutual friend on Instagram who had begun publicly sharing her fitness journey, and her body was to die for. As I scrolled through her photos, I saw her continuously giving thanks to this ‘Kayla Itsines’ chick for changing her life. Let the stalking begin.

From the minute I got to Kayla’s Instagram, it was an obsession. I spent weeks scrolling through her photos, which largely consist of incredible before and after photos of women who have followed her fitness guides. It’s the Kayla movement. And the shit is REAL. Her 12 week programs, which are doable from home and with minimal equipment, have proven to yield amazing results. (Check out her Instagram feed HERE to begin obsessing, if you’re one of the few left on the planet who hasn’t already.)

Anyway, one day I was sitting on the couch with a good friend of mine, while our babies played, and she brought up her frustrations with her post-baby body. Long story short – I brought up Kayla, we sat and obsessed together, and within 15 minutes we had ordered the first 12 week guide. More than two years later, here I am – still using her guides religiously.

Listen ladies… this program is for everyone. It’s not exactly easybut it’s certainly not impossible. The workouts are 2 circuits, with 4 exercises each. You do both circuits once, then go back and do them once more. You set your timer for 7 minutes each time, and continue going through the 4 exercises until the 7 minutes is up. That’s a total of 28 minutes of exercise. And you only do it every other day. On other days you do things like walk, ride bikes, etc. (your choice) – and some days, you’re free to do NOTHING. You stretch after every workout and occasionally have rehabilitation days where you stretch and foam roll.

I had major skepticism at first, because I think a lot of us imagine that you have to work out for hours a day to achieve our dream body. But I’m telling you… The results I am seeing from this routine are unparalleled. Prior to this I was doing a variety of Yoga and Pilates based exercises at home. While I was thin, I was not getting the muscle tone I was looking for. At one point my husband and I tried INSANITY and it was just that. Insane. It killed my knees and it actually took months for the pain to go away once I decided it was ridiculous and stopped. Kayla’s guide has provided me with with everything that I’ve been looking for in a fitness source. You can do it at home, it’s quick, it’s challenging – it’s also not too demanding, and it gives you muscle tone you never knew you could have before.

One of the things I love most about this program, though, is how great it makes me feel mentally and emotionally. Even though I’ve been doing it for years now, it still challenges me. I feel so strong and cleared of my stress when I’m finished. I feel strong physically, and strong mentally for constantly pushing myself. And seeing the payoffs (which I started seeing really, really quickly) is so motivating and encouraging.

If you’re ready to get yourself into a routine, feel great, look great, and shock yourself at how damn strong you are – here is the link to Kayla’s site. Get on board and be prepared to be amazed.

    1. I don’t! I am vegetarian and eat predominantly vegan. She does offer a vegetarian meal plan, which is nice. But it includes dairy and my lifestyle is way too chaotic and busy to accommodate meal plans anyway… plus I just love to eat what I want when I want hah. The key is always everything in moderation. Eat as well as you can as often as you can. Allow yourself to indulge here and there when you really want to, and don’t beat yourself up over it. I do think meal plans can really help certain people, but ultimately eating healthy has to be a permanent lifestyle change if you want to stay healthy and fit. So I personally think just focusing on making better choices whenever possible is the best way to go. There are so many great food blogs and resources out there for finding healthy recipes and ways to meal plan!
