tone & relax your body at the same time // a fav workout video

Over the years, I have become a self proclaimed exercise video expert. YouTube has an amazing selection of workout videos, and I have tried lots of them.

Back in 2012 I was newly back in shape after a busy life of work and way too much partying while living in Chicago (2008-2011) had gotten the best of me. I moved out to Salt Lake City at the end of 2011 and had begun getting myself back into a healthy routine. I came across this video right around that time and it immediately became my daily go-to.

I did this 40 minute workout like 5 days a week and the results were so good. It’s a Crunch video called Super Slimdown Yoga & Pilates Blend and they are not joking when they say super slim down. I got seriously slender during the time period that I was doing this regularly. Of course I was also eating well and often being active on the side – hikes with my boyfriend, walking a lot, etc. Anyway, I was actually happy with my body and working as a bartender at the time, I constantly had girls asking me what type of workout I did.

One of the best things about this video, is that while it’s decently challenging and clearly strengthening your body – it is also like a meditative experience. Given that it is strongly Yoga based, it makes sense. It’s extremely fluid, which I love. You switch things up fairly quickly so you don’t get bored or feel like things are too slow… a problem I’d had when experimenting with Yoga in the past.

Also, while this video was made in like 2006, the production is decent. Crunch is a reputable fitness organization – I actually belonged to a Crunch gym in Chicago. Anyway I really can’t hang with a video if it’s terribly cheesy and was clearly produced with zero budget. This one is filmed well, the accompanying music doesn’t totally blow, and Ellen (the instructor) is good.

Some final points –

Like I mentioned earlier, this video is only about 40 minutes from start to finish, which includes some nice stretching at the end. It’s easy to squeeze into your day and you get to do it in the comfort of your own home. Don’t have to get to the gym or even get dressed. Sold.

And for my Mamas… current Mamas or Mamas-to-be… this is a great post-baby exercise. I went back to this video once I was cleared to start exercising again after having my daughter. It’s nice and easy on your body but will whip your ass into shape. Just obviously make sure you are cleared with your doctor, and always listen to your body. If it feels like you are doing too much – take a step back.

Give it a try and let me know how much you love it! Cus you will.

(PS :: Upon writing this and sharing it, I’m having a realization that perhaps someone has shared this video on YouTube unlawfully. I personally purchased the DVD after discovering it on YouTube. I do not condone piracy or stealing people’s work. This video may very well have been released for public viewing after a certain period of time, but since I can’t confirm this – I encourage you to follow my lead and purchase the video.  If I come to find out that this content was not legally released, I will be removing it from my outlet.)
